DISC profiling

i just did a DISC profiling at work as part of our continuing professional development - it's supposed to help understand and evaluate myself, and i must say it's about 70-80% accurate =)

for those of you who're not sure what DISC is, check out wiki's brief description.

anyway. i'm 34% Dominant, 73% Influence, 65% Steadiness, and 59% Compliance, which basically makes me 231% DISCo.

i must be reading the results wrong somehow. :P

anyway, i'm a Communicator/Planner and my primary trait is Open (as opposed to Assertive, Controlled and/or Passive).

it goes on to say that i'm friendly, patient, sociable and steady person who values attention and support and seeks approval and avoids isolation and change.

i am suffering from some stress but this is relatively low and i am sufficiently assertive and resilient enough to deal effectively with this stress and even apply it as a source of motivation.

man, i like what i'm hearing so far.

ha ha ha.

the further notes say that i enjoy the positive attention of others, am very much at ease when meeting new people. extrovert and outgoing, i place happiness and personal fulfilment above purely material considerations and work best on a social level, rather than in a position where accuracy and precision are required.

in my general dealings with other people, i will prefer to avoid conflict, but when placed under intense pressure i may react strongly.

advantages are that i am open to other people and build effective relationships quickly and easily. i am outgoing and frank, and i have a real desire to enjoy other people's company and work especially well when communicating ideas and intentions.

disadvantages are... not gonna tell u hahahahaha

got a lot more la, but i think v boring to read all about me me mememememememememe.

i wonder what Jesus' personality is.

it's probably 100000% L - love.

heh.

Our Group

How come suddenly the blog is so quiet?

Anyways here is this week's "devotion" from Max Lucado. Thought it was pretty interesting.

Our Group by Max Lucado

“Teacher, we saw someone using your name to force demons out of a person. We told him to stop, because he does not belong to our group.” - Mark 9:38 -

John has a dilemma. He and the other disciples ran into someone who was doing great work. This man was casting out demons (the very act the disciples had trouble doing in Mark 9:20). He was changing lives. And, what’s more, the man was giving the credit to God. He was doing it in the name of Christ.

Everything about him was so right. Right results. Right heart. But there was one problem. He was from the wrong group.

So the disciples did what any able-bodied religious person would do with someone from the wrong group. “We told him to stop, because he does not belong to our group” (v. 38).
John wants to know if they did the right thing. John’s not cocky; he’s confused. So are many people today. What do you do about good things done in another group? What do you do when you like the fruit but not the orchard?

I’ve asked that question. I am deeply appreciative of my heritage. It was through a small, West Texas Church of Christ that I came to know the Nazarene, the cross, and the Word. The congregation wasn’t large, maybe two hundred on a good Sunday. Most of the families were like mine, blue-collar oil-field workers. But it was a loving church. When our family was sick, the members visited us. When we were absent, they called. And when this prodigal returned, they embraced me.

I deeply appreciate my heritage. But through the years, my faith has been supplemented by people of other groups.

A Brazilian Pentecostal taught me about prayer. A British Anglican by the name of C.S. Lewis put muscle in my faith. A Southern Baptist helped me understand grace.

One Presbyterian, Steve Brown, taught me about God’s sovereignty while another, Frederick Buechner, taught me about God’s passion. A Catholic, Brennan Manning, convinced me that Jesus is relentlessly tender. I’m a better husband because I read James Dobson and a better preacher because I listened to Chuck Swindoll and Bill Hybels.

And only when I get home will I learn the name of a radio preacher whose message steered me back to Christ. I was a graduate student who’d lost his bearings. Needing some money over Christmas break, I took a job driving an oil-field delivery truck. The radio only picked up one station. A preacher was preaching. On a cold December day in 1978 I heard him describe the cross. I don’t know his name. I don’t know his heritage. He could have been a Quaker or an angel or both for all I know. But something about what he said caused me to pull the pickup onto the side of the road and rededicate my life to Christ.

[Poll] Restricted or not?

POLL!!

I am extremely uncomfortable with the idea that our team blog is now PUBLIC and viewable by all. I don't want to have deal with idiots spamming our blog with rubbish comments or this blog being shut down for whatever flimsy reason. I also don't like it that other people who are not blog members can read our posts.

What do you think of making the blog private again? Means you have to be logged in to view, just like before.

If I don't get any strong objections to restricting blog viewership, I will change the settings the next time I log on. Means if I don't hear any "No's", I'll take it as "Yes, change it back to private".

Yes, I am a very paranoid sort, but it's a fact that one doesn't have to be extremely resourceful to find what they want to find on the internet.

NLP

today we did a neuro-linguistic programming exercise in class - NLP for short. it's what helped people like anthony robbins and adam khoo become famous. see if you can do this along with me.

we were asked to close our eyes, concentrate and visualise for 5 minutes these 3 statements:

1. how much money do you need in your bank before you consider yourself a success?
2. what are the key changes in your lifestyle when you a success?
3. who will be the people beside you when you are a success?

after that, we had to continue visualising...

- exactly how you'd feel when you had that amount of money in the bank
- precisely what are the things you'd be doing when you're successful, maybe playing golf, going sailing on your private yacht, etc
- what people would be saying about you when you're successful, and specifically, what are the good things that they would say about you that you never thought they would say
- the thoughts and feelings you experienced when you look back on your journey of how you became successful

why don't we all do that now? =)

the end result is, you're supposed to feel a burst of energy as positive feelings flood through your system.

this is roughly the same feeling i get when i walk out of a particularly anointed sermon. i feel like i can conquer the world, cast out demons, run into hospitals and clear them out...u know what i mean, i'm sure you've felt like that too! i'm not knocking NLP... i think it's great. the world can rely on NLP, no problem at all. it's produced quite a measure of success in many people, and that's fantastic!

BUT. we have something better.

We have the Holy Spirit!

He will never let us forget that all these successes in life are from the Lord. He will always point us back to the finished work of Christ. He will always walk with us when we're down, inspire us when we're feeling faint-hearted, reassure us of our victory!

Deu 8:18 But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.

how wonderful is our Father? there's this verse in the bible that always touches me when i read it...

II Samuel 22:36, “You give me your shield of victory; you stoop down to make me great.”
(also, Psalm 18:35)

He STOOPED down to BRING me UP! God stooping...for me! the thought boggles the mind.

anyway... God is a covenant-keeping God. in this day and age where people find it so easy to break their commitments (i've been so guilty of this myself), God still honours and upholds HIS covenants...

ok hallelujah now He has to uphold His covenant for my healing cos i'm about to rush to the toilet to LS................................

Prayer...

Everyone, I'm sure some of you have read about the 4 teenagers who jumped into the canal and one of the girls drowned. Well, as it turns out, the girl, Debra, is the daughter of one of the servers, Phoebe of Support Ministry. There's a memorial service tonight over at their place. Let's offer up a prayer of peace and love for those who are directly affected by this incident.

For more details, you can contact me.

Believing for BreakThrus

Don't Stop Believing!
by Joyce Meyer

Have you been praying about a situation in your life and found yourself waiting for a breakthrough? Are you wondering why the answer hasn’t come yet? Do you feel as though victory is passing you by? Sometimes when we pray long and hard about a situation in our life without receiving any answers, we just learn to live with it. We go on about our business, wondering if or when God will send the answer.
But God does hear those prayers, and He’s working out the answers even though we may not know all the details. Our situation can change suddenly—quickly without warning! But one thing is certain: Before God moves suddenly, we will wait. Waiting for answers is a fact of life—nobody gets out of it. So the question is not if we’ll wait, but rather how we’ll wait. And I believe how will determine how long. There are two ways to wait: One is to wait passively, and the other is to wait expectantly. A passive person hopes something good will happen and is willing to sit around waiting to see if it does. After a short time, he gives up, saying, “That’s it! I’ve waited and waited and nothing’s happened.” The passive person has a lot of wishbone but not much backbone! The expectant person, on the other hand, is hopeful, believing the answer is just around the corner, due to arrive any minute.
His belief is not a passive thing. His heart is full of hope, expecting his problem to be solved at any moment. He wakes up every morning expecting to find his answer. He may wait and wait, but suddenly what he’s been waiting for happens.

It’s just like when a woman is pregnant; it’s said that she is expecting a baby. She carries inside her the promise of a baby, and even though she can’t see it, she knows it’s there. The moment she learns of her pregnancy, she begins to plan for her baby’s arrival. She starts collecting items she’ll need and busily gets the nursery ready. She actively prepares for the arrival of the baby because she knows the promise will be fulfilled—it’s just a matter of time. She is expectant and she’ll wait as long as it takes.

We know the word wait means “to expect” or “to look for.” But remember, it also means “to serve”—just like a waiter waits on your table at a restaurant. Our act of waiting isn’t supposed to be spent sitting around passively hoping that something will happen sometime soon. Once we’ve asked God to answer a question or solve a problem, we need to be eagerly awaiting His answer. We need to be serving actively, aggressively and expectantly. When our hearts are eager to hear from God, He loves to rush in suddenly with His solution. In many cases this waiting period actually serves as a time of preparation for the answer.
If God answered right away, many of us would be ill-prepared to handle His solution. Sometimes we find ourselves in such horrible messes that it’s hard to imagine waiting one more second. But we need to keep waiting on God and trusting Him with a sweet and simple faith. Then, in a way we never could’ve figured out—God moves suddenly!

In the Bible Paul and Silas knew about waiting, and they waited well. Acts 16 tells the story of how they were attacked by a crowd, beaten and thrown in jail. Verse 24 says the jailer…put them into the inner prison (the dungeon) and fastened their feet in the stocks. He was making sure they couldn’t escape. But about midnight, God showed up. Now it would have been nice if He’d come a little earlier, but Paul and Silas didn’t seem to mind—they just decided to start singing and began to worship the Lord. They began to wait on God. Verses 25 & 26 say, But about midnight, as Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God, and the [other] prisoners were listening to them, suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the very foundations of the prison were shaken; and at once all the doors were opened and everyone’s shackles were unfastened. God answered them suddenly!

When people patiently and expectantly wait on God in the midst of horrible circumstances, suddenly God breaks through. So don’t give up! Don’t stop believing! Stay full of hope and expectation. God’s power is limitless, and He’ll break through for you.

Project Care 2007!

Project Care 2007 (organised by CDAC)
22 April 07 - 300 youths turned up to volunteer help to about 200 elderly to do their grocery shopping today. Each elderly was given a $30NTUC voucher and the volunteers were required to help the elderly keep within this budget. The shopping was done at Pasir Panjang NTUC.
After the shopping, volunteers and elders had lunch together at the civil servants club in Bukit Batok.

Madam Teo - The elder I was attached to.My first taste of volunteering for community projects after doing some minor ones during my schooling days.

I must admit it was very difficult waking up at 6am on a Sun morning. In fact thoughts of totally flying aeroplane crossed my mind so many times.. but am glad I did not cos it provided me with such a rewarding experience.

Initially I thought, what can we buy with jus $30 bucks.. But I must say I was surprised that it was sufficient if we were prudent.

All in all I had great Fun..

Our Trust in HIM

I came across this wonderful article while looking thru crosswalk... Jeremiah 29:10-14.
God is Good..ALL the Time...

10This is what the Lord says: "When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my gracious promise to bring you back to this place. 11For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14I will be found by you," declares the Lord, "and will bring you back from captivity."

Here are the encouraging truths I found in these verses:
• Trials eventually come to an end, and God can be absolutely counted upon to fulfill His promises (verse 10).
• God is still thinking about us, even when we're feeling lonely in our trials (verse 11). He is listening to our heartfelt prayers (verse 12).
• The only thoughts that God has toward us are thoughts of peace that include a future that is hopeful and good (verse 11).
• God allows our trials to come because they are necessary to accomplish His purpose in our lives (verse 11).
• God's purpose is that we would seek Him (verse 13).
• God allows Himself to be found when we search for Him with all our heart. He purposes to ultimately bring about our restoration (verses 13-14).

Uncommon one.

Today's message coming from Pastor Lian truly spoke to me. Not only from a single angle but from a whole bunch of perspectives on my own life I needed more insight on. Interestingly enough, I'm caught between critical crossroads in my life right now.

Most importantly the heart of the message today points towards the fact that we ARE an uncommon kind. Different, set apart and graced for many a big thing. How is it possible for me, young and relatively inexperienced to take on a world so huge; only one answer really. Jesus has made me uncommon and through Him will I perform many a big thing for His glory. Like what God has done through Moses at his weakest moment; so will I, take on the red seas in my life, through Jesus.

I am uncommon.

Amen. :D

Prayer request

I'm totally lemming for this.

Ever since I've saw this together with jo last sat, I've been thinking about this bag. God, I WANT this bag!!!
